NFL franchise tag tracker: List of players franchise tagged by teams in 2023

Pittsburgh Steelers v Baltimore Ravens
Quarterback Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens looks on from the sideline as the Baltimore Ravens play against the Pittsburgh Steelers

Now that the NFL's franchise tag labeling deadline has passed, we know which players will be free agents on Monday, when they are permitted to start planning their next move.

Teams will still be able to contact their free agents, but until the start of the "legal tampering" period on Monday, they will not be allowed to speak with any other prospective free agents from other franchises.

An out-of-contract player must stay in the squad for the next season if the franchise tag is applied to them unless the team trades them. The franchise tag can only be applied to one player per team annually.

List of players that have been franchise tagged

#1 - Tony Pollard – RB – Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys have franchise-tagged their running back, with his value not quite as high as it should be after injuring his ankle in the postseason.

Ezekiel Elliott was replaced as the team's starter last season by Tony Pollard, who had an outstanding season and averaged a league-best 5.94 yards per touch. Pollard will get a larger role, which he deserves if Elliott is let go.

#2 - Lamar Jackson – QB – Baltimore Ravens

Lamar Jackson's position with the Baltimore Ravens has been among the major topics of the NFL offseason. Which variation of the tag the team will employ was the most pressing topic. It turns out that some reports claim the team gave the quarterback a non-exclusive tag.

In the event that a long-term agreement between the two parties is not reached in the upcoming months, Jackson will get $32.416 million in 2023. The top quarterback can also bargain and respond to proposals from other organizations. The Ravens can match any offer made by another team.

#3 - Josh Jacobs – RB – Las Vegas Raiders

Josh Jacobs led the league in carries in 2022 with 1,653 yards, which was his finest year. He made his second Pro Bowl and was chosen for the first-team All-Pro.

According to ESPN, Jacobs has stated that he desires a long-term contract but wants it to "make sense" to him. With the franchise tag, he will now make $10.091 million in 2023.

#4 - Evan Engram TE – Jacksonville Jaguars

After spending five years with the New York Giants, Evan Engram played for the Jacksonville Jaguars last season, setting career highs in receptions (73) and receiving yards (766). The Giants selected him at pick No. 23 overall in 2017, and since then, he has had 335 career receptions for 3,594 yards and 20 TDs.

Engram and the Jaguars are interested in negotiating a contract that will keep him with the team for several years. By applying the tag, the Jaguars will have additional time to complete that task and keep Engram from becoming a free agent.

#5 - Daron Payne – DT – Washington Commanders

Daron Payne of the Washington Commanders will receive $18.937 million in compensation after recording a career-high 11.5 sacks in the recently completed season. He had 21 tackles for loss, which was the third-highest total among defensive tackles in the NFL.

#6 - Saquon Barkley – RB – New York Giants

The New York Giants gave Saquon Barkley a non-exclusive franchise tag. With 10 TDs last year, Barkley ran for a career-high 1,312 yards and will make $10.091 million off the tag.
