NFL Hall of Famer shares Tom Brady’s father’s concern amid Buccaneers star’s struggles

Tampa Bay Buccaneers v Los Angeles Rams
It has not been a good season for Tom Brady

Tom Brady has struggled this season. Despite posting a solid statistical resume this season, it has been far from his usual level of play. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are 6-7, much worse than a year ago and far below expectations.

Despite that, and Brady's short retirement last offseason, the end doesn't appear to be nigh for the legendary quarterback's career. There's no indication he's even close to walking away.

According to the New York Post, that is concerning to two people: former NFL Hall of Famer Cris Carter and Brady's own father. Carter told Kay Adams:

“The night before the game, I happen to meet up with Tom Brady’s dad and asked him what he thought about the game, the opportunity to win again. He said the only thing he’s worried about is the kid, the kid won’t go home. He said ‘the kid is outside still playing, and he won’t come in. It’s raining, everything.’ He said, ‘I am only afraid the kid won’t stop playing even if he wins.'”

Carter believes winning might be a bit of an addiction for Brady, one that he might not walk away from:

“He won that game [Super Bowl LV] and he’s still playing. So the dad told him, so it is a problem. The NFL is a drug, man, and there is no other office job, partnership, relationship, we got great players broadcasting, running teams — it’s nothing like the NFL… to hoist the Lombardi seven times, man, that’s a drug and he’s got it. He’s got it bad.”

Despite a career of dominance and the accolades to back it up, Carter fears it will never be enough for a quarterback who is creeping towards 50 years of age.

Can Tom Brady add another Super Bowl this season?

Despite the awful record and poor performance (both on full display in the 28-point loss to the San Francisco 49ers), the Buccaneers are far from out of it.

Tom Brady has his team at 6-7 and they sit atop the NFC South. They suddenly have real competition from the Carolina Panthers and the Atlanta Falcons, but the division is currently theirs. As they lead the division, their destiny is still in their own hands, so it's not all doom and gloom.

If they get in the playoffs, it is impossible to count Brady out. Who knows, there may yet be a chance for the quarterback to retire at the highest point possible.
