Ranking the highest-paid coaches in the playoffs
#4 - Dan Quinn, Washington Commanders – $4.5 million
One of the main reasons for the Washington Commanders' remarkable run to the NFC Championship Game this season is Dan Quinn's presence in the team's dugout.
He has benefited greatly from his prior experience as coach of the Atlanta Falcons, and now, he has transformed an unfamiliar roster into an integrated group.
When Quinn was hired by Washington in February 2024 on a multi-year contract, he reportedly agreed to a $4.5 million annual salary. One may argue that he has overperformed in his first campaign with the team.
#3 - Nick Sirianni, Philadelphia Eagles - $7 million
Over the past four seasons, the Philadelphia Eagles have risen to the occasion under Nick Sirianni, becoming one of the NFL's most thorough teams.
Since taking over as coach in 2021, Siranni has guided the Eagles to the postseason each of his four seasons in that position. He also guided the team to one Super Bowl, where the Kansas City Chiefs defeated them, in the 2022 season.
Sirianni's contract with the Eagles pays him $7 million per year, according to Front Office Sports.
#2 - Sean McDermott, Buffalo Bills - $11 million
As the Buffalo Bills' coach since 2017, Sean McDermott has contributed to the team's turnaround.
McDermott led the Bills to their first postseason berth since 1999 in his first season as coach. Then, under his direction, Buffalo won its first postseason game since 1995, in 2020. That season, the Bills lost to the Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game, just one game away from the Super Bowl.
According to Front Office Sports, McDermott's existing contract, which will keep him with the Bills until the 2027 season, pays an average of about $11 million a year.
#1 - Andy Reid, Kansas City Chiefs - $20 million
Andy Reid will remain with the Kansas City Chiefs until February 2029 after agreeing to a contract extension in April 2024. The veteran coach will reportedly make up to $20 million a year under this new contract, more than any other NFL head coach.
It's hard to argue against Reid being the best coach in the whole league, so it's only fitting that he's also the best-paid.
Prior to joining the Chiefs, Reid was criticized for his dismal performance in crucial games when coaching the Eagles. But he has now captured three of the last five Super Bowls in Kansas City.
Reid also remains the only head coach in NFL history to have won 100 games with two different teams.
