NFL Rumors: 5 NFL teams already rule out Lamar Jackson move in 2023

Pittsburgh Steelers v Baltimore Ravens
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson

Lamar Jackson received the non-exclusive franchise tag from the Baltimore Ravens, which means that he's free to sign an offer sheet with any team and, if the two parties reach any deal, the Ravens have the option to match it or receive two first-round draft picks.

It's uncommon to see a former league MVP who's in his prime be available (sort of) for other teams, especially when it's clear he's willing to move. However. while many teams could use his services, what's happening in the league is the exact opposite.

Many teams have confirmed that they're not going after Jackson in the market, even though the "price" is only two first-round picks, way less than what the Denver Broncos paid the Seattle Seahawks for Russell Wilson, as an example.

The Miami Dolphins, the Atlanta Falcons, the Carolina Panthers, the Washington Commanders and the Las Vegas Raiders are all reported to be out on Lamar Jackson. They all have question marks at their respective quarterback positions, so it's weird to understand why they're not interested in a deal.

Why are teams moving out of the chase for Lamar Jackson?

The reason is pretty simple: Jackson knows his value, and he wants a fully guaranteed contract. NFL teams are wary of the situation due to what happened with Deshaun Watson's contract.

Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti, the same person involved in Lamar's situation, said this about Watson's contract with Cleveland a month ago:

"I don't know that he should've been the first guy to get a fully guaranteed contract. To me, that's something that is groundbreaking, and it'll make negotiations harder with others."

The NFL Players Association is aware of a possible collusion involving teams not participating in Lamar's sweepstakes so as to not give him a fully guaranteed deal.

Watson got a five-year, $230 million guaranteed contract with the Browns after an entire year-and-a-half out of the league due to his problems with the Houston Texans and later due to his accusations of sexual assault. Fully guaranteed deals are an obvious problem for the teams, which is why nobody seems willing to go after Lamar.
