Nick Chubb played for the Georgia Bulldogs during his collegiate career.
Nick Chubb is an American football running back for the Cleveland Browns as of the 2024 NFL season. The Cleveland Browns selected him as the 35th overall pick in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Soon after, he would start his domination with the Cleveland Browns as his rushing total would fall just 4 yards short of the 1,000-yard mark during his rookie season. His second year onwards would begin a 4 consecutive Pro Bowl appearances streak. The first of those years would see Chubb finish just shy of the 1,500-yard club, ending at 1,494, good for second-most in the league. Despite missing some time in the regular season in 2020, the Browns' running back would cross the 1,000-yard barrier again. However, more impressive was his 40-yard touchdown catch in the playoffs to essentially put the game on ice against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
With a contract extension looming, the two sides were able to agree on a 3-year, $36.6 million extension. Immediately, that contract would pay dividends, as he would eclipse the 1,200-yard mark for the second-most rushing yards in the league. But, his best was still yet to come. During the 2022 season, Chubb would break all previous personal records, finally crossing that elusive 1,500-yard mark. As a result, apart from a 4th-straight Pro Bowl selection, he would make his first second-team All-Pro. However, 2023 was a year to forget for Chubb as he tore his MCL and damaged his ACL against the Cincinnati Bengals in the week 2 matchup, which would see him miss the remainder of the season.
Nick Chubb College
Chubb is a Cedartown, Georgia-born running back who was a standout four-star recruit from Cedartown High School, where he excelled as a track & field athlete as well. Eventually, he would choose to commit to the University of Georgia. As a freshman, he was supposed to be behind Todd Gurley on the depth chart. However, Gurley’s suspension saw a quick promotion into the starting lineup for Chubb and he made the most of his newfound opportunity. It was a record-breaking season for the youngster as he would break the bowl game record with 266 rushing yards in his first appearance at the Belk Bowl, earning MVP honors as a result. For the season, his 1,547 rushing yards were the second-highest mark in the SEC, despite just 8 starts. As a result, he won SEC Freshman of the Year and first-team All-SEC honors.
The next season was just as historic and record-breaking for him to begin with. Early in the year, he would tie Herschel Walker for most consecutive 100-yard games at 13. However, the next week, a gruesome injury saw him miss out the remainder of the season. After returning in 2016, he was used sparingly to begin the year. This, coupled with a recuperation period from his time off, saw his numbers dip slightly. However, his overall counting stats were still impressive as he would finish 1,130 rushing yards for the season, landing him second all-time in SEC rushing yards. The 2017 season was when he started rounding back into his awesome freshman-year form. Starting all 15 games, the ever-dominant Chubb totaled 1,300+ yards despite sharing running back duties with Sony Michael. The two’s combined brilliance saw the Georgia Bulldogs raise the SEC title with a 12-1 record.
