The career of Nick Foles has been quite an interesting one. He has reached the pinnacle of the sport in the NFL winning the Super Bowl and that too as the backup quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles. But since that surprising run to the Championship, Foles’ career has taken a nosedive and it is now at a point where he may not get an opportunity to play in the league again. In a sport where consistency is the key to success, Foles has encountered a roller coaster of a ride that has seen the highest of highs as well as the lowest of lows.

At this stage of his career, Foles is actually an eleven year veteran in the league. At 34 years of age, he is not exactly a young player, but he still can have a few years left to give the game before calling it quits. His journey in the NFL has seen him be a part of six different teams till now in his eleven year career. In 2022, he last played for the Indianapolis Colts franchise and that too for just one year. After being let go by the Colts, where is Nick Foles now?

What team is Nick Foles on

Prior to the 2022 NFL season getting underway, Nick Foles signed a two year deal with the Indianapolis Colts meaning he would remain with the team till the end of the 2023 season. The Colts in any case used Foles as their backup to starting quarterback Matt Ryan. Sitting out for almost the entire season, Foles finally got to see some action when he was given the starting job for the final two games of the regular season.

The Colts finished third in the season with a disappointing 4-12-1 record and they went 0-2 in both games Foles started. In the week 16 game against the Los Angeles Chargers, Foles threw three costly interceptions while in the week 17 game against the New York Giants, he got injured in the second quarter bringing an end to his year.

On 5th May, 2023, the management decided to let Foles go ending his stay with the team after just a lone year. As per the current status, Foles is still a free agent and no team seems to be in contact with him regarding any possible deal.

Nick Foles’ Previous Teams

Foles first came into the league in 2012 after the Eagles selected him in the third round. Since his first day with the Eagles, Foles was always in contention for the starting role with Michael Vick. With Vick earning the starting role, Foles was relegated to the backup spot, however, injuries to Vick enabled Foles to get in a few games in his rookie year while in 2013, he got to start in 10 games. Although he didn’t play particularly poorly in his three year stay, the Eagles decided to trade Foles to the then St. Louis Rams (Los Angeles Rams).

The Rams proved to be a difficult test for Foles to pass as he went through the entire season making bad errors in judgment and poor performance in general. He had a 4-7 record in his 11 games as a starter and threw 10 interceptions as opposed to just 7 touchdowns. As the Rams had the first overall pick for the upcoming campaign, they drafted Jared Goff looking to give him the reins of their offense. This in turn was upsetting for Foles and he demanded a release.

Foles then signed a one year deal with an option for the second year with the Kansas City Chiefs. He only got one start and played in three total games for the entire season. The Chiefs didn’t renew his contract which then led him back to the Eagles. This was the best part of his career as he got the chance to lead the team to a victory in Super Bowl LII over the mighty New England Patriots as a backup to Carson Wentz.

Post his two years with the Eagles, Foles’ career rapidly fell apart as he went to play for the Jacksonville Jaguars on a four year deal but could not remain there beyond one season due to a poor 0-4 record and injury worries. Then he joined the Chicago Bears for two years but continued to struggle, not being able to win a sufficient amount of games. As a result of which he found himself with the Colts in 2022 where once again he struggled with the limited number of chances he got.

Currently, as a free agent, it remains to be seen whether Foles can get a break and make a comeback in the league or not. As time winds down in his career, he may not get many more opportunities going forward.
