Packers trade targets: 5 players Green Bay Packers should look to acquire before the deadline feat. Odell Beckham Jr., Clelin Ferrell, and more...

New York Jets v Green Bay Packers

Being a Green Bay Packers fan must be an extreme sport, as there always seems to be trouble brewing in the perennial Super Bowl contenders. Last season, it was a case of whether Aaron Rodgers would stay, get traded, or even retire if he didn't have his way.

This season started with the Packers losing one-two wide receiver super duo Davante Adams and Marquez Valdes-Scantling to the Las Vegas Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs, respectively.

As a result of the turmoil in the off-season, Aaron Rodgers is left throwing touchdown passes to Allen Lazard and a mixture of rookies and journeymen. Unfortunately, that doesn't make for encouraging signs for a team with one of the greatest quarterbacks in modern history at center.

However, the NFL is built so that a well-measured trade can take a team from so-so to championship contenders. Matt LaFleur should be looking for such a renaissance. Here are a few names that can change the fortune of Aaron Rodgers and co.

5 Players Green Bay should look to acquire before the deadline

1. Odell Beckham Jr. - Wide Receiver, Free Agent

You know it, and I know it. Your grandma probably does as well. At this point, the entire NFL audience knows that Odell Beckham Jr. has been flirting with the possibility of catching touchdown passes from Aaron Rodgers.

As neutrals, that would truly work, as a pairing of two of the most enigmatic players in the league should make for good press. However, it remains to be seen whether Green Bay can offer Odell what he feels he deserves as a Super Bowl-winning wide receiver and whether they can assure him of Rodgers' commitment beyond the current season. If both boxes are ticked, expect Odell to be doing his touchdown dance come January 2023.

2. Chase Claypool - Wide Receiver, Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers haven't had the most impressive wide receiver crop in the past few years, so it shouldn't be a surprise that they are shifting and shuffling the current options on the roster.

One such option is Chase Claypool, a pass catcher who deserves way more love than he has been getting in Pittsburgh. It isn't obvious that your team doesn't rate you when the team is shopping you in the off-season for a draft pick or two.

That shouldn't be a problem for the Packers, as the team is severely lacking in wide receiver depth, a role at which Chase Claypool is pretty adept.

Tied for 3. Brian Burns and D.J. Moore, Wide Receiver, Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers are in a full rebuild, and every single player of theirs has a price at the moment. So what would the Green Bay Packers part with to guarantee a top-notch wide receiver straight from Carolina?

Well, it has been rumored that a second-round draft pick would suffice either, as the Panthers are looking to stack up a war chest of draft picks for the loaded 2023 NFL Draft.

5. Clelin Ferrell, Defensive End, Las Vegas Raiders

The Green Bay Packers pass rush gets a C minus, as it isn't the worst, but it surely ranks well below the best, probably nestled in the average tier. However, the pass defense is just one piece away from being a top-tier league.

Clelin Ferrell is a name that Las Vegas Raiders fans have grown to adore over the years. If he leaves, there will certainly be a few grumbles. But such grumbles could be soothed with a trade that puts the Raiders in a position to draft up.

The Green Bay Packers' performance so far this season

The Green Bay Packers have lost three matches in six this season. I repeat, the Aaron Rodgers-led Green Bay Packers have lost three out of a total of six games played in the 2022 NFL season. The Packers are in the middle of a rebuild of some sort, and it seems to be getting to the back-to-back defending MVP, Rodgers.

However, all the Packers need is a decent run of form, and then it's pretty likely they'll be back performing at their usual high standards. The Green Bay Packers will face the Washington Commanders in their Week 7 game, and Packers fans can only hope that Rodgers will continue to conjure up some of his magic once again.
