The Carolina Panthers are one of the few teams that are yet to win a Super Bowl. They've had some top-notch quarterbacks over the years and have reached the big game on two occasions.

However, following the 2017 season, the franchise has failed to make it to the playoffs. Carolina has started eight different quarterbacks since 2018 but the NFC team has still fallen short of a postseason spot.

The quarterbacks that have started for Carolina in the past five years are Cam Newton, Taylor Heinicke, Kyle Allen, Will Grier, Terry Bridgewater, P.J. Walker, Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield.

Interestingly, Newton is the quarterback who has started the most number of games (21) for Carolina since 2018. However, the three-time Pro Bowler left the franchise a second time after the 2021 season.

Baker Mayfield was named as the team's starter last season, but he failed to live up to expectations and was later replaced by P.J. Walker and Sam Darnold. Mayfield left to join the Los Angeles Rams towards the back end of the regular season and now plays for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Panthers are expected to take a look at the free agency market for a new signal caller ahead of the 2023 season. However, Frank Reich isn't ruling out the possibility of landing one of the top prospects from the NFL draft.

The likes of Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud and Will Levis have been linked with the franchise ahead of the draft. Hence, it will be interesting to see which quarterback will start for Carolina next season.

The Carolina Panthers did not have the best of seasons in 2022. They finished with a 7-10 record, level with divisional rivals the New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers finished as the top seed in the NFC South with an 8-9 record.

Nonetheless, Carolina will be eager to end their postseason drought. While there have been signs of promise, the team needs to build around a quarterback who can deliver the goods.
