Pat McAfee counters Brett Favre over defamation lawsuit, files civil case in return

The war of attrition between Pat McAfee and Brett Favre continues. The former quarterback is suing the former punter - and current WWE SmackDown star - over comments made on Favre's current situation.

Favre has been linked to a massive welfare scandal in his home state of Mississippi, and he's suing McAfee over defamation charges.

While it's difficult to see how Favre would ever win this lawsuit - mainly because, you know, he has massive charges hanging over his head - the tide has been turned. Now, Pat McAfee is the one suing the former quarterback in a civil case.

We learned a few weeks ago that Pat McAfee was being sued by Favre - and he told the entire story on his show.

His own quotes that day were long but pretty explanatory of what was going on throughout the day before the lawsuit became real.

"I'm getting sued alongside Shannon Sharpe and an auditor from Mississippi by Brett Favre. Brett Favre is suing me in a defamation lawsuit, saying I defamed his name to try to earn a profit. I would like to let everybody know that the quotes that were in that lawsuit are certainly accurate, but there's one word, I believe, that was said often on this particular program if you were to watch it at all, and that would be 'allegedly'.

"Our job is to report the news. 'Allegedly' what was going on down in Mississippi with Brett Favre, the man who is suing me for money and for defamation, was being reported on this particular program because we owe the sports media world our coverage of it. We take our jobs seriously as journalists."

The former punter has curiously embraced the situation - and he has a fair point. He cares more about the fact that money was stolen from Mississippi, one of the poorest states in the US, than what Favre thinks of him.

The quarterback, on the other side, is more concerned about his image and his well-being than the money that was allegedly stolen from the state.

We'll see how the situation develops, but it's not that difficult to know which side seems to have a fair point here.
