A recently successful team from the East Coast is the Philadelphia Eagles. This franchise dates all the way back to 1933. The team plays its home games at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. Since 1970 the team has played in the NFC East division along with the Cowboys, Giants, and the Commanders.

The Eagles have one of the best fan bases in the entire NFL which is evident from the fact that every home game has been sold out since 1999. The philly fans are a huge support for the home team but they are also known to be notorious and hostile towards opposition players and fans so much so that things have escalated to fighting on more than one occasion. But their support is unwavering and the one leading the charge is none other than their beloved mascot Swoop.

Eagles mascot Swoop

The Philadelphia Eagles, as their name suggests have a bald eagle as their mascot. The ever-so-loving and fan favorite mascot's name is Swoop. He is a costumed mascot with a white head, yellow beak, big blue eyes, and a brown body. He wears the Eagles jersey with the number 00 on the front and the Eagles pants.

According to a fictional story about Swoop, he hatched a bald eagle but had very poor eyesight and was weak but he was also good at heart. One day, an Eagles fan gave him the team’s jersey and instantly he grew as big as a human. His eyesight improved leaps and bounds while he regained complete strength.

At the game, Swoop is seen making his entry via a zip line and is known for performing many more stunts. He also has the honor of being in an NFL shop commercial one time as he is shown walking into the store just when a thief is trying to steal the Eagles jersey before being nabbed by the security. Another claim to fame for Swoop is his cameo appearance in the hit film of the 90s; Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.

Who has played the Swoop mascot

The first Swoop which debuted in 1996 was an idea put forth to the owner by an intern named Jeff Alexander. He was the first one to don the costume from 1996 to 1998. At the time Alexander recalls that he would do more than 300 events annually and would often meet kids in the malls and school but the mascot's appearance was not attracting the attention that it should have. Therefore, in 1999 when Alexander left as the mascot, the team switched things around and made a new costume.

The next person to play the role of Swoop was Ryan Hughes who played the mascot for a good twelve years from 1999 onwards. According to him, the story of how he got the job is quite interesting. What happened was an unfortunate incident with the precious person who was inside Swoop during a game. He was riding his four-wheeler without paying attention and drove right into a security guard. Although the guard was okay, the team had to let him go as the incident was seen by approximately 70,000 people.

After Hughes also left his job, the identity of the next Swoop could not be found. In spite of his identity being secret as of now, the new Swoop is still doing what he loves to do best - give the fans a jolly good time.
