On Thursday, the Washington Commanders traveled to Lincoln Financial Field to take on the Philadelphia Eagles in a battle for the top spot in the NFC East standings.
The home team has been in sizzling form of late. They had won four games on the trot and came into this clash on the back of a 34-6 thrashing of the Dallas Cowboys last Sunday. They looked to extend their perfect record against their divisional rivals to 3-0.
The Commanders lost the top spot in the division standings last Sunday after a gut-wrenching 28-27 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers at home. The defeat ended their three-game winning streak and ceded control of the race for the division title to the Eagles. They looked to reclaim it with a win on Thursday night in Philadelphia.
Here's how the game panned out.

Philadelphia Eagles vs Washington Commanders game summary
The Eagles got off to a strong start as they embarked on a 12-play, 54-yard drive that stalled at the Commanders' 26-yard line. They settled for a 44-yard field goal attempt, which kicker Jake Elliot pushed wide left and the game remained scoreless.
After exchanging punts on the next two drives, the Commanders finally opened the scoring through Brian Robinson Jr. The running back punched the ball into the endzone after his 18-yard run set up 1st-and-goal from a yard out.
The Eagles looked the deficit to four early in the second quarter, but Elliot dragged his 51-yard attempt wide left again, and Washington remained ahead. However, the visitors couldn't capitalize on their defense's stellar work and Philadelphia's kicking woes.
The home team finally got on the board after a lengthy 14-play, 82-yard drive stalled at the three-yard line, setting up a 21-yard chip shot for Elliot, which he thankfully converted and the two teams went into the halftime break with the Commanders leading 7-3.
Washington restored its seven-point lead on the opening drive of the second half after kicker Zane Gonzalez drilled a 44-yard field goal attempt, However, Philadelphia quickly responded with a field goal of its own to cut the deficit back to four.
In the fourth quarter, the Eagles' offense finally woke up, as Jalen Hurts and Co. carved through a visibly gassed Commanders' defense before the quarterback found the endzone on the patented 'Brotherly Shove' from a yard out, giving his team the lead. However, Elliot missed the extra point attempt, which meant Washington could take the lead with a field goal.
The Commanders responded in style, as Jayden Daniels and the offense took only seven plays to advance the ball 46 yards and in Gonzalez's field goal range. However, the next two plays yielded -1 yards, and instead of attempting a 42-yard field goal, Washington went for it on fourth down. But they couldn't convert and turned the ball over downs, which proved to be a massive error.
The Eagles extended their lead to nine points in the subsequent drive, as Saquon Barkley capped off a six-play, 74-yard drive with a 22-yard touchdown run.
On the Commanders' first play after the touchdown, Daniels threw an ill-advised pass to Noah Brown, which cornerback Reed Blankenship picked off, giving the Eagles another golden opportunity to add to their lead.
The offense did not let it slide, as Barkley capped off his stellar outing with a 39-yard touchdown run to put the game beyond the Commanders' reach.
Eagles icon Zach Ertz scored a touchdown late in the game to cut the deficit to eight, but with only 28 seconds on the clock, the Commanders needed a successful onside kick to keep their hopes of overtime alive.
However, tight end Dallas Goedert ensured he fielded the onside kick attempt safely and Hurts knelt the clock out to secure a 26-18 win for the Eagles.
