Dallas Cowboys vs. Pittsburgh Steelers game summary
A long delay caused by a hailstorm portented what the first quarter would become: a defensive slugfest that saw each team limited to a field goal. But towards the end, TJ Watt made a massive highlight play when he and Nick Hwerbig did this strip sack of Dak Prescott:
But nothing came of the ensuing drive in the second quarter, and the Steelers were forced to punt. The Cowboys' own drive amounted to nothing but a field goal, though.
Within the final minute, another defensive highlight happened after Donte Jackson intercepted Prescott at the end zone:
Justin Fields finally broke the endzone in the first drive of the third quarter, when he found Connor Heyward for six. After that however, no other scoring plays happened until the first drive of the fourth when Dak Prescott found Rico Dowdle for a 22-yard touchdown.
Later in the period, Joey Porter Jr. did it again for the Steelers, intercepting Prescott. The ensuing drive would turn into a touchdown to Pat Freiermuth.
Within the final minute, the Cowboys had a chance to win the game at the red zone. On second down, however, Rico Dowdle fumbled the ball on a rushing attempt. Prescott recovered it, but failed to complete the pass on the next down. However, he finally did it on fourth down, finding Jalen Tolbert just right at the edge of the end zone.
The Steelers’ multilateral final drive went nowhere, ending the game.
Both the Cowboys and Steelers will play late afternoon games against the Detroit Lions and Las Vegas Raiders respectively a week from now.
