Minnesota Vikings Adrian Peterson scored three touchdowns for the seventh time in his career, including a 78-yard dash on his first touch of the 2013 season.
However, the Detroit Lions held him in check the rest of the way, Peterson just gaining 15 more yards over his next 17 carries.
The Vikings comitted four turnovers that led to a pair of Lions touchdowns. Joseph Fauria’s 1-yard touchdown reception with 6:47 remaining gave Detroit a 10-point lead and QB Christian Ponder stuggled and was intercepted three times and a sure pick-six Lions LB DeAndre Levy was called back by Ndamukong Suh chop block penalty.
The Lions led the battle offensively and in time of possession, racking up 471 total yards and controlling the clock – 34:59 with the ball.
However, Matthew Stafford’s fouth quarter touchdown drive to snatch a victory that both teams didn’t want to win.
