The Las Vegas Raiders were thought to badly need a franchise quarterback in the 2024 Draft after their Jimmy Garoppolo experiment failed. But instead, they chose tight end Brock Bowers despite already having Michael Mayer.
Thus, the QB competition has become a heated one between fourth-round sophomore Aidan O'Connell and free-agent signing Gardner Minshew. The latter has been handling most of the snaps so far in preseason, and it continued on Saturday against the Dallas Cowboys, who came away big 27-12 winners in Vegas.

Raiders vs Cowboys preseason week 2 summary
Both teams started the game by trading field goals in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Jalen Cropper fumbled a punt return allowing the Raiders to recover deep in Cowboys territory. But all they could muster was another field goal.

Dallas' third-string quarterback Trey Lance ended the end-zone drought with a pass to rookie Ryan Flournoy just before the final minute of the first half. Brandon Aubrey then ended the first half with another field goal.
To open the third quarter, Aidan O'Connell found tight end Harrison Bryant for a five-yard touchdown. But the subsequent two-point attempt fell short.
The fourth quarter began nightmarishly for the Raiders, as Kemon Hall intercepted O'Connell and returned it 69 yards for six. The eventual rout was sealed when Lance rushed into the end zone just before the two-minute warning.
Raiders vs Cowboys preseason week 2 stats
With his future up in the air heading into the final year of his contract, Trey Lance dominated the game, completing two-thirds of his passes for a monstrous 151 yards and a touchdown. On the ground, he also showed why the San Francisco 49ers had massively traded up for him in 2021, rushing five times for 36 yards and another score.
Despite his touchdown catch, Ryan Flournoy was not the Cowboys' best receiver for the night - it would be Racey McMath, who had 54 yards from three grabs.
Kemon Hall's pick-six served as a lone high point for a defense that failed to register a sack. Another cornerback, Andrew Booth Jr., was the game's top tackler, with seven solos and an assist.
Both of Vegas' top two quarterbacks, Gardner Minshew and Aidan O'Connell, fell short of 100 yards each. The loss spoiled sophomore Tre Tucker's game-high 66 yards from three catches, while Jack Jones and Divine Deablo had six tackles each.
