Ranking 5 biggest needs for Jalen Hurts' Eagles heading into 2024 NFL training camp

Philadelphia Eagles v Seattle Seahawks
The Eagles have needs to fill before the 2024 season

The Philadelphia Eagles are entering perhaps the most important year of Nick Sirianni's career. The head coach needs to develop his team into a powerhouse once again after the meltdown late in the 2023 season; otherwise, he'll likely have to look for a new job in 2025.

The Eagles are a well-stacked team, but like everyone else, they have plenty of needs to compete with the best teams in the conference. For quarterback Jalen Hurts, it's all about getting back to his 2022 level and taking Philadelphia back to the Super Bowl.

5 needs for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2024

#1. Wide receiver depth

Outside of Dallas Goedert (tight end), A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, there isn't another reliable receiver on the Eagles who provides depth. Even though Parris Campbell was signed, there's no way to trust anyone on the roster before they prove themselves.

#2. Offensive line depth

Jason Kelce officially said goodbye to the NFL, leaving a huge legacy for the league and, in particular, the Philadelphia Eagles. His absence and leadership will not only be on the offensive line but on the roster as a whole. The Eagles have a starting five that's among the best in the league, but the depth is a concern for the first time in a number of years.

#3. A starter linebacker

The Eagles are still expecting Nakobe Dean to develop into the player he was back in Georgia, but you can't count on this forever. Linebacker has been a huge problem for the team for many years, and if they don't find an answer in July, the San Francisco 49ers will exploit this again when these two teams meet – especially if it's in the playoffs.

#4. A starter safety

The return of C.J. Gardner-Johnson gives Philadelphia a quality starter, but as they learned last year, Reed Blankenship is a liability that elite teams are certain to exploit - he's a very good backup, though, so moving him to a depth player would do wonders in Vic Fangio's new defense.

#5. Interior defensive lineman depth

With Fletcher Cox also retiring, experience is a need for the team. There's plenty of potential in the group of Milton Williams, Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter, however, this isn't as deep a group as it used to be. Signing a veteran player would be awesome.

Hurts and Co. will look to improve on their 11-6 overall regular season record in 2024. Philadelphia will open the new season against the Green Bay Packers in Brazil on September 6.
