Even if there have been some lackluster NFL playoff games, the vast majority have been far more interesting than regular season games.

We get to witness the conference championship games and Super Bowls during the playoffs, which are more guaranteed to be intriguing because of the higher implications but also because they include the league's top teams.

Below, we'll examine some of the most dramatic playoff matchups in recent history.

The top 6 postseason games in recent memory

6) AFC Championship Game, 2018: New England Patriots (37) - Kansas City Chiefs (31)

Tom Brady, the veteran, and Patrick Mahomes, the up-and-coming youngster, faced off in the 2018 AFC Championship Game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the New England Patriots.

After only gaining 32 total yards in the first half of that hotly contested affair, the Chiefs dominated the Patriots 24-14 in the fourth quarter. The Patriots won the coin toss and launched a game-winning drive in overtime after the game ended in a 31-31 draw in regulation.

5) NFC Championship Game, 2018: Los Angeles Rams (26) - New Orleans Saints (23)

A big controversy surrounded the 2018 season's NFC Championship Game, which saw the New Orleans Saints lose to the Los Angeles Rams 26-23 in overtime at Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

The uncalled pass interference by Rams cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman, who illegally hit Saints wide receiver Tommylee Lewis with his helmet near the end of regulation, marred the Rams' supposedly stunning victory.

New Orleans may have hit a game-winning touchdown to all but guarantee their win if the penalty had been given.

The Rams would eventually tie the game with a field goal, forcing overtime. After Drew Brees, the quarterback for the Saints, threw an interception, Los Angeles scored a 57-yard field goal in overtime to win the game and qualify for the Super Bowl.

4) Divisional Round, 2017: Minnesota Vikings (29) - New Orleans Saints (24)

Known as the "Minneapolis Miracle," the Saints overcame a 17-0 first-half disadvantage to take a 24-23 lead with less than 30 seconds remaining in the January 2018 NFC Divisional playoff game against the Minnesota Vikings.

The subsequent events rank among the most memorable in NFL history. QB Case Keenum went back with 10 seconds remaining in the game and threw a pass, which wideout Stefon Diggs received to secure the game-winning touchdown score of 61 yards.

The Vikings' thrilling 29-24 triumph stunned the NFL world and left supporters awestruck.

3) Divisional Round, 2021: Kansas City Chiefs (42) - Buffalo Bills (36)

In a chilly Arrowhead Stadium, the Chiefs trailed 33-36 to the Buffalo Bills with 13 seconds remaining in an AFC Divisional Round game. But in a wild twist of events that sometimes defies rationality, tight end Travis Kelce scored the game-winning score to guide the Chiefs to a 42-36 win in overtime.

Before the game entered overtime, Buffalo and Kansas City scored 25 points combined in the last two minutes of regular time.

QB Josh Allen of the Bills was outstanding in the loss as well, completing 27 of his 37 throws for 329 yards and four touchdowns. In addition, wideout Gabe Davis set a new NFL postseason game mark of four touchdowns despite the defeat.

2) Super Bowl LII, 2017: Philadelphia Eagles (41) - New England Patriots (33)

An NFL game is typically an excellent one if it isn't settled until the very last play. Massive hits, near misses, and lead swaps were all on show during the Super Bowl LII game, and the outcome wasn't known until the very last possession.

The Patriots, who had triumphed in the Super Bowl the year before, faced the Philadelphia Eagles, who hadn't won a Super Bowl before. With a 41-33 victory, Philadelphia won its first NFL championship in nearly 60 years, as well as its first Vince Lombardi title.

That game also set a number of records, such as the fewest punts from both sides in a Super Bowl (one) and the most yardage accumulated between two sides combined in any NFL contest (1,151).

1) Super Bowl LI, 2016: New England Patriots (34) - Atlanta Falcons (28)

Super Bowl LI is memorable for a number of reasons, but the top of that list is because it featured the most impressive comeback in Super Bowl history.

In that game, New England overcame a 28–3 disadvantage to defeat the Atlanta Falcons 34-28 in overtime, making it the first time a Super Bowl will enter overtime.

Brady stood out in that comeback victory as he finished with a record 466 yards and won his fourth Super Bowl MVP.
