Rashid Shaheed injury update: Should fantasy managers be concerned about Saints WR for Fantasy Football Week 7?

Rashid Shaheed is a regular contributor to the New Orleans Saints offense. The veteran pass catcher is behind Chris Olave in targets but still plays a role with the playoff hopefuls.

Rashid Shaheed's injury update

According to CBS Sports, Rashid Shaheed had his knee checked out early in the week.

The Saints WR2 was listed as a non-participant on Monday's practice estimate due to a suspected knee injury. He suffered the injury in the fourth quarter of Sunday's defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The report says that Shaheed may miss time. The news doesn't bode well for the Saints, as WR1 Chris Olave is dealing with a concussion. That leaves Mason Tipton, Bub Means and Cedrick Wilson as the candidates to step up.

Hence, Shaheed's fantasy football managers should be concerned ahead of Week 7. It's a short game week, and his chances of featuring against the Broncos aren't so good. Hence, reinforcements should be considered via the waiver wire (temporary) or trade (permanent).

How has Rashid Shaheed performed this season?

Rashid Shaheed has been decent in his role as a WR2 on the Saints. The veteran pass catcher has amassed 20 receptions, 349 receiving yards and three touchdowns in six games.

His best game was in Week 2 against the Dallas Cowboys, as he caught all four targets for 96 receiving yards and a TD. Ironically, that was the Saints' last victory, as they've since lost to the Philadelphia Eagles, Atlanta Falcons, Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Shaheed remains a decent fantasy football wide receiver with the potential of recording the odd breakout game. However, it's risky banking on him as a WR2 caliber player, as he plays on a rush-heavy offense with Alvin Kamara, one of the best running backs in the league.

Furthermore, Chris Olave remains the Saint's primary pass catcher when fit, so it's difficult to imagine Shaheed getting the number of targets required to be a high-octane selection in a playoff-chasing fantasy football team.
