Sammy Watkins just signed a contract that reunites him with the Baltimore Ravens, the team he spent the entirety of the 2021 NFL season with. The former fourth-overall pick has been up and around the league, playing for three teams in as many seasons. That run comes after a time of relative stability for Watkins, as he was a part of the Buffalo Bills for the first three years of his career. A one-year spell with the Los Angeles Rams followed suit, after which he was a part of the Kansas City Chiefs offense for three seasons.
Watkins is now in his ninth season in the NFL, and the Clemson University alum will be looking for one last major payday.
Watkins is currently on a one-year $1,850,000 contract. He signed that contract with the Green Bay Packers at the beginning of the 2022 season. Watkins received a $350,000 signing bonus, guaranteeing the full signing bonus fee. Watkins's contract is what you call a veteran's minimum or prove-it deal, as the nine-year vet is looking to make the best use of his 2023 unrestricted free agency.

Sammy Watkins' Fantasy outlook
Sammy Watkins served as a veteran on an otherwise inexperienced Green Bay Packers offense. The Packers lost franchise cornerstones Devante Adams and Marquez Valdes-Scantling in the off-season. They replaced them with rookies and free agents. Those losses led to the urgent need for the Packers to get a veteran presence in the wide receiver room, which is where Sammy Watkins came in. As such, Watkins totaled the least targets and receptions in his nine-year NFL career.
After a topsy-turvy tenure, Watkins was finally released by Green Bay a couple of days ago, but he did not waste any time before reuniting with a former team in Baltimore. The Ravens need more depth at the wide receiver slot, and they just lost Devin Duvernay to an unfortunate foot injury. Watkins might not be their primary target, but he will get more looks than he did at Green Bay.
How is Sammy Watkins performing this season?
Sammy Watkins has had a rather disappointing season by his impeccably high standards. Watkins was a fourth-string receiver on the Packers, and he never truly got going with Aaron Rodgers. The year nine veteran hopes that a reunion with Lamar Jackson at the Baltimore Ravens will get his career back on track. Free agency is around the corner, so Watkins is truly playing for his NFL future.
Watkins has put up a stat line of 13 receptions off 22 targets, 206 receiving yards, and zero touchdowns throughout nine games played with the Green Bay Packers in the 2022 NFL season. He hopes to add more touchdowns after his move to the Baltimore Ravens.
