Ray Davis Waiver Wire Fantasy Outlook Week 7: Is Bills RB a good pickup?

The world, especially the fantasy football world, waited with bated breath all of Monday to get some news on whether James Cook would suit up for the Monday Night Football showdown against the New York Jets. Alas, Cook had to sit this one out with a turf toe despite being a limited participant in practice on Friday.

Naturally, all eyes turned to Ty Johnson and Ray Davis, who were behind Cook on the Bills depth chart. The Bills started with Johnson to begin with but quickly turned to Davis, which set the tone for the rest of the night as the Bills picked up a crucial 23-20 win to take control of the AFC East.

Davis, in particular, saw some volume at the MetLife Stadium as he tried his best to fill in for James Cook. Considering he was somewhat impressive, should you pick him off the waiver wire for Week 7?

Ray Davis waiver wire fantasy outlook for Week 7

We touched on Ray Davis' fantasy outlook for Week 6 over the weekend, pitting him against his teammate Ty Johnson.

The bottom line of that Davis vs Johnson duel was that Davis saw his reps somewhat mysteriously taken away from him between Weeks 4 and 5. Before Week 4, Davis was the unofficial RB2, behind Cook.

We're not really clear on what happened after Week 3, which is when Sean McDermott decided to shake things up and hand Johnson more of the reps. The belief was that the trend would continue on Monday Night Football, but McDermott clearly had other plans.

Davis ended the night rushing for 97 rushing yards and racked up another 55 receiving yards in the 23-20 win. More importantly, he had 100 scrimmage yards before halftime.

The 42-yard contested catch, with Bill Belichick screaming on Manningcast for Josh Allen to get rid of the ball, was Davis' highlight play, and all things considered, he filled in for Cook to the best of his ability.

The problem is that we know Cook will take control of this backfield once he's back. A turf toe is not an injury that's likely to keep him away from the field for a long time. Davis could see some more reps in the backfield when Cook is back, but we're not that high on him as a waiver wire pickup for Week 7.
