When Patrick Mahomes joined the Kansas City Chiefs in 2017, it changed the fortunes for both of them. While the Chiefs recorded three Super Bowl wins since then, Mahomes was able to fetch a record-breaking deal—the fifth biggest deal in sports history and the biggest in the NFL. But for a simpleton like Mahomes, getting his own house in 2019 was itself a big deal.

By 2019, the young couple had shifted to a new location—a suburban area in Kansas City that was just 20 minutes away from Arrowhead Stadium. The Bleacher Report team filmed and interviewed the couple, where an excited Mahomes revealed:

“This is the first home that either of us has ever owned. Renting a house wasn’t for us. We wanted our own place.”

A dive into Patrick Mahomes' first house

Since Mahomes joined the big boys' league in 2017, it was only natural for him to rent out a space in his first year. They were living in an 1800-square-foot penthouse for which the QB paid $307,000. It was the first piece of real estate he had owned, but he later listed the property for $550,000 as they moved to a new location.

Mahomes upgraded to a $1.8 million mansion with three bedrooms and four bathrooms in a livable space of 4,300 square feet. A 500-bottle wine room, a sun porch, a terrace, a pool with a Jacuzzi, a rose garden, a large grass area, a wet bar, and even a tiny putting green were all included.

But Brittany was excited for her pets, Silver and Steel:

“The dogs having their own yard is probably the biggest thing for us.”

Patrick was also excited about owning a house that he could have designed in his vision, although he claims to be a "yes" man who barely questioned the designer’s choices.

“We’ve kind of torn everything down and built it back up the way we wanted. Just being able to nail stuff into the wall and not have to get, like, the sticky tabs—like, you can do whatever you want with the home now,” Mahomes said.

For the Mahomes, it was the city and its people who played a pivotal part in their decision to settle down:

“I think the people are what we love the most about Kansas City. I mean, they have such a passion for the community. The food, the football team. They treat us, I mean, just like we’ve been here our whole entire life.”

Hence, the Mahomes plan to stay in Kansas City for a long time; in his own words, maybe more than 20 years.
