Richard Rhondel James Jr., widely known as Richie James is an American football wide receiver currently playing for the Kansas City Chiefs in the National Football League. Over his six-season career, he has played for three NFL teams, including the San Francisco 49ers, New York Giants and Kansas City Chiefs.

James was born in Sarasota, Florida on 5 September 1995 and as of January 2024, he is 28 years old. His football journey began at Riverview High School, where the football field, he also excelled in track and secured numerous state titles. After completing high school, he remained solely focused on football and chose to play college football for Middle Tennessee State University.

Concluding his collegiate career, James’ professional football journey began in the NFL, after being selected by the 49ers as the 240th overall pick in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL draft. Following his NFL selection, he signed a four-year rookie contract with the team valued at $2.53 million. After playing for the 49ers and then the Giants, he ultimately joined the Chiefs in 2023. His current one-year contract with the Chiefs is worth $1.232 million.

James attended Middle Tennessee State University, where he played college football for the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders from 2014 to 2017. James redshirted his freshman year in 2014. In the 2015 season, he played in 13 games as a redshirt freshman, recording 107 receptions for 1,334 yards with eight touchdowns. His outstanding performance earned him a spot on the 2015 All-Conference USA (C-USA) First Team and the 2015 C-USA All-Freshman Team.

Throughout the 2016 season, he amassed 105 receptions for over 1,600 receiving yards and secured 12 touchdowns, with an additional 339 rushing yards and four touchdowns in all 13 games. His remarkable performance throughout the season earned him a place on the 2016 C-USA All-Conference First Team.

In the 2017 season, James was limited to five games due to a season-ending injury. He concluded the season with 31 receptions for 290 yards and three touchdowns. Following the 2017 season, he announced his entry in the 2018 NFL draft. With over 3,200 receiving yards and 23 receiving touchdowns he became Tennessee’s career leader in both receiving yards and receiving touchdowns.
