San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was shot in the chest on Saturday afternoon during an attempted robbery in downtown San Francisco. Chief of Police Bill Scott of the San Francisco Police Department said the suspect is a 17-year-old male from Tracy, California, and he has been taken into custody.

However, no other information about the suspect has been released with Scott adding that investigation is ongoing and more would be provided as soon as they are available.

Reports state that bullets were fired at the intersection of Geary and Grant streets, one block from Union Square in San Francisco, and the police quickly responded.

Before the incident, Pearsall was reportedly signing autographs at an event center in the afternoon and then made his way to Union Square.

The attempted robbery resulted in a violent struggle between Pearsall and the 17-year-old suspect, which left both of them hurt, according to the SFPD. Later, Pearsall was taken to San Francisco General Hospital along with the suspect.

Chief of Police Bill Scott stated that there was no proof the 17-year-old suspect had chosen Pearsall as his target due to his status as an NFL player. Scott further mentioned that during the attempted heist, only one gun was used and multiple bullets were fired.

As far as they know, he said, the suspect was acting alone, but the numerous security cameras in the vicinity will be examined while the inquiry is ongoing.

What is Ricky Pearsall's condition?

During a news briefing on Saturday night, San Francisco Police Chief Bill Scott said that Ricky Pearsall was in a good state at San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center.

Pearsall was shot in the chest, according to a statement released by the 49ers on X, and they described his condition as "serious but stable.”

The Niners wrote on social media, "We ask that you please respect his privacy at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ricky and the entire Pearsall family."

Additionally, Deebo Samuel Sr., a 49ers receiver, tweeted, "He's good. Thank God," while commenting about Pearsall's condition.

Ricky Pearsall was selected by the 49ers with the 31st pick in the 2024 NFL draft, coming out of the University of Florida. However, since joining the team, injuries have delayed the 23-year-old’s progress. He had shoulder and hamstring problems during training camp, which kept him out of practice until this past week.
