Roman Wilson has only made one appearance in the NFL since the Pittsburgh Steelers selected him with the 84th overall pick in the third round of the 2024 NFL draft. Since training camp began, Wilson has struggled with injuries, and he is currently on injured reserve after reportedly suffering a hamstring injury during a practice session in October.

The 23-year-old wide receiver missed the whole preseason due to an injured ankle he sustained during training camp. He was just starting to recover when he suffered a hamstring injury that has kept him out since Week 8.

Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that although Steelers fans are frustrated that there haven't been any new developments regarding the rookie wide receiver since he was placed on injured reserve in October, the Steelers may decide to open his 21-day practice window in light of George Pickens' recent hamstring injury.

In a conversation with fans on Tuesday, Fittipaldo reportedly discussed Wilson and hinted that if Pickens' injury keeps him out longer, there could be an opportunity for the former Michigan Wolverine to return.

Wilson's only game in his rookie season came in the 32-13 win over the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 6. He saw no targets throughout the five offensive plays he was on the field for.

Wilson has reportedly displayed some signs of potential during the practice sessions he was available for before his hamstring injury, but it will certainly take a few weeks for him to adjust to the professional standard once he is well enough to return to action.

The Steelers have the option to open Roman Wilson's 21-day window any moment from now, allowing him to rejoin the active roster after he has already missed more than four games since being placed on injured reserve.

Wilson can be viewed as a depth option with the playoffs drawing near, even though Mike Williams, Van Jefferson and Scotty Miller all filled in well for Pickens during the Week 14 victory over the Cleveland Browns.

Roman Wilson's college statistics

Roman Wilson became the Michigan Wolverines' top target in the 2023 season, and his output played a significant role in the team's first national title since 1997.

During his four years at Michigan, Wilson demonstrated his explosiveness and receiving prowess, racking up 107 catches, 1,707 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns. He had 48 catches for 789 yards and 12 touchdowns in 15 games as a senior, earning him a spot on the second team of the All-Big Ten.
