Quarterback Daniel Jones led the New York Giants to their first playoff appearance since 2016 and a playoff win over No. 2 seed Minnesota Vikings. Now, the Giants quarterback wants to be paid handsomely for his efforts. The Giants can either choose to use the franchise tag on their quarterback or negotiate a contract extension and use the franchise tag on another player.
According to the New York Daily News, Jones, who hired new representation last week, is looking for an estimated $45 million a year in a long-term deal. There are currently only five quarterbacks in the NFL who make $45 million or more a year.
Those five are: Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, Patrick Mahomes, Kyler Murray and Deshaun Watson. Whether Jones fits into that category or not and is deserving of that type of contract is something Giants general manager Joe Schoen will have to figure out.

If the Giants decide to use the franchise tag on the quarterback, it would cost them $32.4 million. That would be a $13 million difference in salary for 2023 and an estimated $8 million for 2024 if the salary cap increase continues to rise, in case the Giants use the franchise tag on their quarterback for two seasons.
Daniel Jones isn't the only young quarterback looking to get a pay raise this offseason, though. Cincinnati Bengals' Joe Burrow and Philadelphia Eagles' Jalen Hurts could all see their salary rise to $45 million or more this offseason.
Giants GM Joe Schoen shared details on Daniel JOnes' contract negotiations
While at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, Indiana, this week, New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen made an appearance on "Good Morning Football". Peter Shrager asked him about the contract negotiations with Daniel Jones. Schoen said:
"Things ramped up pretty quick with his new group, and we've had productive talks throughout this week. We met Monday, Tuesday; we met yesterday with them, and we'll continue to talk and see if we can get something done before Tuesday."
Schoen said that with the new agents the quarterback has hired, the intensity of the negotiations has also increased. He said that both sides have met several times this week and will continue the conversation in hopes of getting something done by the franchise tag deadline on Tuesday (Mar. 7).
The New York Giants have two options for the franchise tag: their quarterback Daniel Jones or running back Saquon Barkley, whom they would also like to retain.
