Christian McCaffrey trade: Panthers name ridiculously high asking price for star RB

Carolina Panthers star running back Christian McCaffrey is one of several players that the Panthers are actively fielding calls for as they are rebuilding for the future right now.

When healthy, McCaffrey is one of the best running backs in the league and the Panthers are asking for an arm-and-a-leg in return for the versatile running back. There were multiple reports early Sunday morning that the Panthers are not only looking for at least a first-round pick in return for CMC, but they are asking for at least multiple first-round picks.

After last Sunday's 37-15 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, the Panthers fired head coach Matt Rhule a day later on October 10th, 2022. In two and a half seasons with the team, Rhule finished with an 11–27 record. The Panthers are currently 1-4 through the first five games of the 2022 season.

With the Panthers firing Rhule very early on in the season, teams have been fielding calls for many of their star players. Players such as wide receivers DJ Moore and Robbie Anderson, defensive linemen Brian Burns and Derrick Brown.

San Francisco 49ers v Carolina Panthers

According to NFL independent reporter Dov Kleiman, the San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Rams, Buffalo Bills, and Denver Broncos are amongst the most interested teams in acquiring McCaffrey.

McCaffrey entered the league in 2017. He was selected eight-overall as with the Panthers' first-round pick. He has 3,587 rushing yards, 30 rushing touchdowns, 3,015 receiving yards, and 17 receiving touchdowns in his career. In his third-season in the league, McCaffrey became the third running back in history to have 1,000 yards rushing and receiving in the same season.

It's been awhile since a running back has been traded for a first-round pick and although McCaffrey is one of the best playmaking running backs in the league, they may have to settle for less if they want to move the star back.
