Run it back? 3 NFL teams tipped for failure without roster overhaul

Detroit Lions v Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers missed the NFL playoffs

As four contenders emerge from the NFL playoffs, the other teams sit at home and watch. Every single team that didn't make it into the playoffs needs help for 2023 in order to get into the promised land. However, not all of them are in dire straits.

Many teams are so far gone with so many holes on their roster that a contending year is nearly impossible without a lot of changes. Here are three examples of those teams.

NFL teams that need the most help in 2023

#1) Indianapolis Colts

The Indianapolis Colts finished 4-12-1 and were one of the worst teams in the NFL. Their roster is in desperate need of an overhaul. They have no set quarterback as the trade for Matt Ryan proved to be a very poor decision. They need a strong tight end and more wide receiver depth behind Michael Pittman Jr.

Their offensive line performed poorly despite employing a few big-name players, so they could use some help there.

The defense also underperformed, so more young talent on that side of the ball is needed as well. Fortunately, the Colts are drafting fourth in the upcoming NFL Draft.

#2) Carolina Panthers

Don't be fooled by the fact that the Carolina Panthers nearly made the playoffs. The division was weak and they were playing for an interim coach they really liked. The roster is full of holes from top to bottom, especially on offense.

They desperately need a wide receiver behind D.J. Moore. They could also go for a reliable tight end and another running back even though D'Onta Foreman burst onto the scene.

As has been the case for the last couple of years since Cam Newton left, they desperately need a quarterback, too.

Their defense has a lot of young pieces, but they could also use another edge rusher and another good corner. When Jaycee Horn went down, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers abused the secondary en route to the NFC South title.

#3) Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears probably field the worst roster in the entire league. Aside from Justin Fields and a few other players, no position is remotely solid. They desperately need wide receivers to help Fields and could use a good tight end as well as reliable offensive linemen.

Their entire defense is relatively poor, so they could use a lot of help on that side of the ball. Fortunately, they have the first overall pick.
