Quarterback Russell Wilson could be in jeopardy of missing the Pittsburgh Steelers' season opener on Sunday. Wilson appeared on Thursday's injury report for the Steelers with a nagging calf strain.

He joined the third team of his NFL career this offseason when he signed a one-year deal with the Steelers in free agency. However, given his latest injury worries, many wonder if newly-added youngster Justin Fields will instead start for Pittsburgh on Sunday.

The Steelers traded for Fields from the Chicago Bears, and he's been battling Wilson for the starting quarterback spot this summer. Nonetheless, coach Mike Tomlin named Wilson as the starter last week.

There might be some cause for concern regarding Russell Wilson's status for the Steelers' season opener against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

Wilson was a full participant for all practices this week and didn't appear on the team's injury report. However, the Steelers received bad news, as Wilson was listed as a limited participant in Thursday's practice.

He was seen around the team on Thursday, though he never put on his helmet and didn't take any snaps throughout the day.

Russell Wilson missed the Steelers' first two preseason games as he was dealing with a calf strain. He returned for their preseason finale and, shortly after, Mike Tomlin named him the starting quarterback for the season.

Wilson missed Thursday's practice as Tomlin told reporters the QB was dealing with some calf tightness. He will be evaluated by team doctors tomorrow.

Ian Rapoport tweeted:

"Something to watch for Sunday: #Steelers coach Mike Tomlin told reporters that QB Russell Wilson reported some calf tightness and is going to get checked out by doctors. He was limited in practice."

The Steelers are just three days out from their season opener against the Falcons. If Wilson isn't healthy enough to play, backup Justin Fields will get the start at quarterback.

Tomorrow should provide a more clear indication of Wilson's status for Sunday's game. Do you think he will play this Sunday for the Steelers?
