It's difficult to put your finger on who's going to be the top tight end in fantasy football each week. You can factor in all the matchup variables you want but some weeks it's just the fact that Tua Tagovailoa probably felt a lot more comfortable throwing to Jonnu Smith than Kirk Cousins did throwing to Kyle Pitts. That's enough to wreck your calculations.
This week, we have a pretty interesting tight end matchup on Thursday Night Football where the Green Bay Packers go up against the NFC's best, the Detroit Lions. Here's everything you need to know about the two TEs' fantasy numbers heading into this matchup.

Sam LaPorta fantasy projection for Week 14
LaPorta's targets have remained fairly consistent in this Lions offense which is incredible given how many playmakers they have. All of Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, Jahmyr Gibbs, and David Montgomery are capable of creating something out of a botched play.
Alas, LaPorta's 19-yard game against the Indianapolis Colts meant most fantasy managers benched the Lions TE for the next matchup against the Chicago Bears. While that decision was warranted, LaPorta somehow ended up with two touchdowns off three catches on six targets. The Lions made it a point to turn to their lead tight end in short-yardage situations in a close game against the Bears.
While that may be a good sign, it's difficult to trust LaPorta in Week 14 where he will go up against a resolute Packers defense.
Tucker Kraft fantasy projection for Week 14
Kraft's targets have not been nearly as consistent as LaPorta's but he has delivered on those targets more often than not. In Week 13 against Miami, Kraft hauled in six of his seven targets for 78 yards - respectable numbers.
The matchup against Detroit is a pretty tough one but this Packers offense offers an everyone-eats policy most weeks. All in all, he has been among the Packers' more reliable options on offense but this matchup against Detroit may not be it.
Sam LaPorta vs Tucker Kraft: Final verdict
Our Start/Sit tool is also of the opinion that it's difficult to separate the two tight ends for Week 14 Thursday Night Football. In any case, it also offers Kraft a marginally higher chance of hauling in more points than LaPorta.
