The San Antonio Brahmas suffered defeat in their opening game of the 2023 XFL season. Hines Ward's side fell to the St. Louis BattleHawks 18-15 on Sunday.

However, there is still a long way to go in the regular season, and the Brahmas will be hoping to string together a run of positive results.

San Antonio quarterback Jack Coan looked impressive in Week 1 as he threw for 207 yards on 25 passes with a touchdown and an interception against the BattleHawks.

However, it remains to be seen whether Ward will keep him as a starter for the remainder of the season. The Brahmas also have potential in Jawon Pass, Reid Sinnet and Anthony Russo as backup quarterbacks.

San Antonio may have the best running backs in the league. With Jacques Patrick, Calvin Turner, Kalen Ballage and Jon Hillman, there is a lot of firepower in their offensive backfield.

They also have tall receivers that can cause trouble for opposition defenses. Jalen Tolliver, Kendrick Rodgers and Terry Wright are among the few well-known pass-catchers.

The Brahmas are stacked with some hefty tight ends in the form of Alize Mack, Dylan Parham and DeAndre Goolsby. The big boys are bound to bully opposition defenses over the course of the season.

Their offensive line brings together a mix of youth and experience with the likes of Darius James, Willie Wright, Luke Juriga, Norman Price and Malcolm Bunche.

Meanwhile, the defensive line also looks strong. Drew Beesley, Denzel Chukwukelu and Mike Tverdov are expected to rush opposition quarterbacks and force mistakes.

On paper, the Brahmas look like a team that can compete for the XFL championship. However, it all depends on whether Ward can get his unit playing to the best of their ability.
