In the final game week of the 2024 NFL season, the San Francisco 49ers took on the Arizona Cardinals in an inconsequential game for both teams.
The 49ers came into this game with a 6-10 record, while the Cardinals were 7-9. Neither team was among the seven in the NFC playoff bracket, and the result of this contest would not change that.
However, pride was at stake for both teams and neither were seemingly keen on capping off the season with a defeat. Here's how the game panned out:

San Francisco 49ers vs. Arizona Cardinals game summary
The first quarter was a low-scoring affair as the two teams scored a field goal each. However, it was an erroneous period for the 49ers as kicker Jake Moody missed a 48-yard field goal and quarterback Joshua Dobbs and wide receiver Jauan Jennings failed to get on the same page, leading to an interception.
The Cardinals capitalized on that error and scored the game's opening touchdown courtesy of Greg Dortch's 23-yard catch and run.
Midway through the second quarter, the 49ers leveled the score with a 10-play, 79-yard drive culminating in a quarterback sneak from a yard out.
The two teams exchanged touchdowns in the next two drives before the Cardinals scored a field goal on the final drive of the half to take a 20-17 lead into the break.
Midway through the third quarter, Arizona extended its lead to nine as Kyler Murray and Dortch combined again for a touchdown.
The 49ers responded immediately as Dobbs found a wide-open Kyle Juszczyk and the fullback took it into the endzone to cut his team's deficit to two points.
While the game was close heading into the final period, the Cardinals put on a clinic in the final 15 minutes of their season. They first extended their lead to nine early in the fourth quarter courtesy of a Michael Carter touchdown.
The defense picked off Dobbs for the second time in the game and gave Murray and the offense terrific field position, which they capitalized on with another touchdown.
In the subsequent drive, the 49ers faced 4th-and-6 at the Cardinals' 43-yard line and opted to go for it but couldn't convert, giving the home team's offense another terrific starting position. Murray and Co. were in no mood to relent, as they scored another touchdown to take a 47-24 lead.
San Francisco just wanted the game to be over with and on the final play, Dobbs took a knee despite his team trailing by 23 points, ending the visitors' dismal season.
