Russell Wilson made a name for himself at the Seattle Seahawks before departing in 2022. He spent 10 seasons in Seattle and delivered their first Super Bowl title.
Wilson joined the Denver Broncos in 2022, and his first game for his new team was against the Seahawks. His return to Lumen Field was highly anticipated, and the consensus was that he would get a mixed reception from fans and ex-teammates.
In an interview with ESPN in September 2022, wide receiver Tyler Lockett said he hoped the crowd would get behind Wilson.

“I think that Seattle should cheer him on for everything that he's done -- help bring a Super Bowl to this community, all that different type of stuff. He's an amazing guy,” Lockett said.

Lockett said he understood Russell Wilson’s decision to leave the team that drafted him in 2012.
“You never want to see people leave, but you've got to understand that everybody has to do what's best for them, and that's what you have to be able to understand about this life is you have to cheer people on,” Lockett added.
Wilson expressed dissatisfaction with the Seahawks management during the final stages of his time in Seattle. He was unhappy with the number of sacks he had taken in his career and the lack of decision-making power. He voiced his discontent during an 2021 appearance on ‘The Dan Patrick Show’.
"I want to be able to be involved, because at the end of the day, it's your legacy, it's your team's legacy," he said.
Seattle Seahawks traded Russell Wilson in 2022
The Seahawks-Wilson saga concluded in 2022. The quarterback was traded to the Broncos along with a fourth-round pick in return for Drew Lock, Noah Fant, Shelby Harris, two first-round picks (2022 & 2023), two second-round picks (2022 & 2023), and a fifth-round pick.
Wilson struggled in his time in Denver. He sacked more than any other quarterback and spearheaded the league's worst scoring offense in the 2022 season.
He was benched toward the end of the 2023 season and released soon after.
