Shannon Sharpe was born on June 26th, 1968, in Chicago, Illinois. He is a prominent figure in the football world as a player and a broadcaster. As a former professional player, regarded as one of the greatest tight ends in the history of the NFL, Sharpe’s impact on the game is inspiring.

Sharpe was drafted as the 192nd pick in the 7th round of the 1990 NFL draft. Sharpe was considered too small to be a tight end and too big to be a wide receiver. Thus, there was a lot of deliberation as to what position he would play on a team that drafted him.

Throughout his 14-year career, Sharpe has put up brilliant performances backed by a number of accolades and records. Some of these include being named to the Pro Bowl 8 times and the First-Team All-Pro 4 times. He stands 3rd among tight ends in number of receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns. In 2011, the legendary tight end was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Sharpe completed his career with 815 receptions, covering over 10,000 yards and 62 touchdowns.

Post his on-field endeavors, Sharpe moved on to work in the sports broadcasting space. Starting off as part of CBS Sports’ pregame show named “The NFL Today,” he eventually moved on to co-host a debate show with Skip Bayless with Fox Sports. This show was named “Skip and Shannon: Undisputed.” Much to the surprise of the sports world, Sharpe announced that he would be parting ways with “Undisputed” after he came to a buyout agreement with Fox Sports. Sharpe is currently with ESPN on their hit show "First Take" where he debates alongside Stephen A. Smith.

In addition to his playing career and broadcasting endeavors, Shannon Sharpe is widely known for his philanthropic work. He has been involved with numerous charitable organizations empowering and aiding the youth and lesser privileged communities. He also heads the Shannon Sharpe Foundation which works to provide scholarships and mentorship opportunities to children from backward communities. In June, 2024 he signed a multi-year extension with ESPN. He is also a co-host on podcast 'Nightcap' with former star wide receiver Chad Johnson.

Sharpe’s journey from his early days in Chicago to a nearly unattainable level of stardom in the NFL and broadcasting world showcases a remarkable journey in a career that is continuously growing and inspiring people.

Shannon Sharpe's Height

Shannon Sharpe has a recorded height of 1.88 meters or 6 feet and 2 inches. This height is shorter than that of an average tight end. Tight ends are typically larger in size as they function as receivers and blockers. However, there have been a number of tight ends who do not have a height advantage but compensate for the same with their athleticism and versatility. Shannon Sharpe was very athletic, being fast and good with his hands. It is clear from his case that height and weight do not define the success of being a tight end in the NFL.

Sharpe is regarded as one of the best tight ends in the NFL’s history. Shannon Sharpe’s ability to play at the level that he did with no definitive physical advantage stands as a testament to how great he was as a player.
