Sheldon Taylor Rankins is an American football defensive tackle for the Cincinnati Bengals as of the 2024 NFL season. The New Orleans Saints selected him with the 12th overall pick in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft. According to Pro Football Reference, Rankins recorded 116 total tackles and 17.5 sacks in his five seasons with the Saints. He signed with the New York Jets in March 2021. In his two years at the Jets, he recorded 75 tackles. Rankins also played for the Houston Texans for a season before signing with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2024.
Growing up in Covington, Rankins attended Eastside High School. He was rated as a three-star recruit by Rivals and Scout. He received the All-State honour two times and finished his senior year with 50 total tackles, as per the University of Louisville website. Rankins committed to the University of Louisville playing for the Cardinals in 2012. He appeared in 10 games, starting in two as a freshman and won the Sugar Bowl in 2012. Before registering for the Draft, Rankins recorded his career-best 58 total and 28 solo tackles in his senior year in 2015 (according to Sports Reference).
