Raheem Mostert was one of the biggest breakout fantasy football players last year, ranking as the overall RB2 for the 2023 season. His 21 total touchdowns were one of the biggest reasons he served as the featured back for the high-powered Miami Dolphins offense.

The veteran understandably entered the 2024 season with a ton of hype following his excellent campaign last year, but his role has significantly changed. He is no longer the starting running back for the Dolphins and has a ton of competition for backfield touches. This makes him a legitimate drop candidate from fantasy rosters entering Week 5.

Raheem Mostert has fallen down the Miami Dolphins' depth chart as rising star De'Von Achane is their new featured running back for the 2024 NFL season. Achane offers much more explosiveness, significantly contributing to his emergence as a star running back.

Complicating Mostert's fantasy outlook even further is that he has been injured since Week 1, missing each of the Dolphins' games since then. Achane has excelled in his absence, currently ranking as the overall RB14 in fantasy football. Even in the one game that Mostert did appear in this year, he played in less than 50 percent of the offensive snaps and received just eight touches.

All this has resulted in Mostert being a legitimate option to drop from fantasy rosters entering Week 5 of the 2024 season. Unless Achane suffers an injury, it's hard to imagine Mostert earning a large enough role to be a significant contributor in fantasy football. In leagues where he is still eligible for the IR list, this is another good option for him, but realistically, he should be dropped for another player with more season-long upside.

Raheem Mostert fantasy outlook for rest of 2024 season

In his two full seasons with the Miami Dolphins so far, Raheem Mostert has ranked as the RB2 and RB26 in fantasy football. He set career-highs in many categories during those two seasons, but that was when he served as a featured running back. Now that he plays behind Achane, his fantasy outlook is less favorable.

The Dolphins drafted Jaylen Wright this year and got Jeff Wilson Jr. back from an injury, creating even more competition to Mostert's workload. It's hard to imagine him bouncing back in a big way in the 2024 season, so dropping him for a different option with more upside is likely the best option for his fantasy managers.
