Should I add Tua Tagovailoa off the waiver wire? Week 8 fantasy outlook for Dolphins QB

Tua Tagovailoa was placed on the injured reserve list following the Miami Dolphins' Week 2 game against the Buffalo Bills. He unfortunately suffered yet another head injury and hasn't played since then.

The Dolphins opened their quarterback's practice window ahead of their Week 8 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. If he can clear all of the concussion protocols and get a doctor's clearance to retrun to the field before then, he will be eligible to start this week.

Tagovailoa is currently available on the waiver wire in many fantasy football leagues. He was dropped by many managers after the serious injury diagnosis, but with his pending return, he is now a candidate to be added back onto fantasy rosters.

The Miami Dolphins have severely struggled since Tua Tagovailoa went down with another head injury this year. They will enter Week 8 with just a 2-4 record and are in legitimate danger of falling out of the race for the NFL Playoffs. This is likely why they are trying to get their quarterback back as soon as he is healthy enough to make a return.

In fantasy football leagues where he is available on the waiver wire, especially those that allow multiple starting quarterbacks in starting lineups like Superflex and 2QB formats, Tagovailoa makes sense as a priority to add this week. He has already proven to be a top-tier fantasy quarterback when healthy, so he can help managers in need of another option for their rosters.

Tagovailoa has finished each of the past two seasons ranked among the top 15 fantasy football quarterbacks, including two years ago when he missed four games with an injury. He got his 2024 season off to a strong start in Week 1 by finishing as the QB9 before suffering his head injury in Week 2. He plays in an offense loaded with weapons, so he has a bright outlook for the rest of the season.

Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle have significantly regressed since losing Tua Tagovailoa, but upon his return, the Dolphins offense is expected to go back to being one of the most high-powered units in the NFL. The quarterback is one of the best players to add off of the Week 8 waiver wire, especially for managers in need of a quarterback or in multi-QB league formats.
