Anthony Richardson fantasy football outlook

Anthony Richardson entered the 2024 fantasy football season with massive expectations for the Indianapolis Colts. He was extremely impressive in a small sample size during his rookie season last year. He flashed his elite upside and dynamic dual-threat skillset before an injury ended his campaign at just four games.

The exciting prospect was unfortunately injured again this year in just his fourth game of the season, but is reportedly expected to return in Week 7. He has been severely disappointing this year even when he has been healthy, making him a drop candidate from fantasy rosters, despite his upside and expected return.

Anthony Richardson lived up to his expectations in the first week of the 2024 fantasy football season, finishing as the weekly QB4. He has been disappointing since then, finishing as the QB21 and QB31 in his other two completed games this year. This opens the possibilty of outright dropping him from fantasy rosters, depite his projected return in Week 7 against the Miami Dolphins.

In fantasy leagues that start just one quarterback, especially those with limited bench spots, it makes sense for managers to drop Richardson. They can do so as long as they have another legitimate quarterback to use in their starting lineups. Where he becomes more valuable is in leagues that allow multiple starting quarterbacks, such as Superflex formats.

It may be difficult to drop Richardson, given his elite upside, but he has already demonstrated that he has a low floor as well. He heavily relies on his legs to provide fantasy value as he has never finished better than the weekly QB19 in any game that he hasn't scored a rushing touchdown. This makes him difficult to trust in weekly lineups, though he has the ceiling to explode in any given week.

Anthony Richardson fantasy outlook for rest of 2024 NFL season

Anthony Richardson appeared in four games during his rookie season and produced polarizing results. He finished among the top four weekly quarterbacks in fantasy football in two of them, but recorded finishes of QB19 and QB29 in the others. His three completed games this season have stuck with that same trend, with one elite week and two duds.

The prospect fits the profile of a boom-or-bust fantasy player in the early stages of his career. His rushing upside gives him a QB1 ceiling in any given week, but he has had as many bad weeks as good ones in his short career so far.
