Derek Carr got off to a scorching hot start to the 2024 fantasy football season with the New Orleans Saints. He finished among the top six quarterbacks in the first two weeks of the season but has significantly regressed since then.
Things got much worse for the veteran last week when he suffered an oblique injury that is reportedly expected to keep him out of action for multiple weeks. His recent struggles, along with the injury diagnosis, have made him a drop candidate in fantasy football entering Week 6.

Derek Carr opened the 2024 fantasy football season as one of the most productive quarterbacks across the first two weeks. He ranked as the QB3 and QB6 in those two games and totaled six touchdowns. He has totaled just three touchdowns across his past three games since then and finished outside of the top 20 quarterbacks in all three of those weeks.
In his most recent contest against the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football in Week 5, Carr suffered an oblique injury that forced him out of the game early. His diagnosis got worse as Week 6 got closer. He is reportedly expected to miss several and could potentially be placed on the injured reserve list to open another roster spot for the New Orleans Saints.
Considering his weak play over the past three weeks, paired with an extensive injury with no projected return date, managers can safely drop him from their rosters in fantasy football. A bench spot is better served on a different player with more upside for the remainder of the year.
Derek Carr fantasy outlook for the rest of 2024 NFL season
Derek Carr has been consistently mediocre during his NFL career so far. He has finished among the top 20 fantasy football quarterbacks in each of his ten seasons but has never finished inside of the top ten. He has been on par with that during the 2024 season, ranking as the QB16 through five weeks.
His consistency suggests that he is a relatively solid QB2 for most fantasy rosters and makes for a valuable streaming option when playing in favorable weekly situations. Considering his current injury, he's not a player who has to be rostered in most formats, especially those with just one quarterback per lineup.
