Should I drop Jordan Mason? Fantasy outlook for 49ers RB for Week 13 SNF

The San Francisco 49ers' Jordan Mason was good for a few weeks before he tapered off. With Christian McCaffrey unavailable because of leg injuries and Isaac Guerendo needing time to adjust to the pros, Mason broke out, having a few 100-yard games and being a decent rushing presence for a team struggling to remain Super Bowl contenders.

However, he soon got injured himself and has since struggled, finding himself at risk of slipping to third in the depth chart as the aforementioned names found their footing. So, is there still any hope of Mason reasserting his status as at least a backup?

If Jordan Mason's dropoff after scoring double-digit fantasy points in his first four games is not strong enough an indication for fantasy managers to drop him, his next opponents' defensive formidability should convince them.

The Buffalo Bills, coming off their bye week, boast a strong defense that, while no longer as star-studded as it was before, have potent operators who can make life difficult for the third-year running back.

Defensive tackle Ed Oliver is the anchor of the trench, and his masterful handling of the line has enabled the play-stopping exploits of the likes of Greg Rousseau and Matt Milano.

Should Mason be able to break that, he has to contend with one of the most talented secondaries in the league: cornerbacks Rasul Douglas and Christian Benford, nickelback Taron Johnson, and safeties Taylor Rapp and Damar Hamlin - who have proven great at containment.

The result is a unit that was among the four best at stopping runing backs after their last game, allowing only 10.5 points on average after giving the Kansas City Chiefs their first loss of the season.

That doesn't bode well for Jordan Mason, who's a very lowly RB51, according to Sportskeeda's fantasy football rankings. In short, Kyle Shanahan will once again lean heavily on Christian McCaffrey and Isaac Guerendo in hopes of breaking that defense.

To surmise, there's no reason why the former UDFA out of Georgia Tech shouldn't be dropped/benched/sat out on Sunday.
