Super Bowl XIX: Montana secures 2nd Super Bowl 

Super Bowl XIX was played on Jan. 20, 1985, at Stanford Stadium in Stanford, California. The San Francisco 49ers, champions of the NFC, faced off against the Miami Dolphins, champions of the AFC.

Bill Walsh led the 49ers to Super Bowl XIX with a record of 15-1 winning their division and then defeating the New York Giants, Chicago Bears and Los Angeles Rams in the playoffs. Quarterback Joe Montana was the star of the team.

The Dolphins, coached by Don Shula, finished 14-2. They won their division and then defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers, Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots in the playoffs. Quarterback phenom Dan Marino, the first quarterback to throw for over 5,000 yards in a season, led the team's offense, and the defense was solid, led by defensive end Kim Bokamper and safety Glenn Blackwood.

The game was a close, hard-fought battle, with both teams trading leads throughout the first half. However, the 49ers took control in the second half and won 38-16. Montana was named the Super Bowl MVP after throwing for 331 yards and three touchdowns. The win marked the 49ers' second Super Bowl victory of the 1980s.
