The Houston Texans traveled to MetLife Stadium to take on the New York Jets on Thursday Night Football with a depleted receiving core. With top target Nico Collins on the Injured Reseves list since Week 5, the pressure had been on Tank Dell and veteran Stefon Diggs over the past three games to make up for his absence.
The duo were performing admirably and the Texans felt they could hold the fort until Collins returned from injury. However, in their Week 8 clash on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts, Diggs suffered a season-ending ACL tear, forcing Dell to shoulder the responsibility of carrying Houston's passing game against the Jets on Thursday night.
The 25-year-old found himself in uncharted territory but passed the test with flying colors.

Tank Dell was quarterback C.J. Stroud's go-to option in high-leverage situations and the wide receiver did not disappoint.

The 25-year-old had caught six passes for a season-high 126 receiving yards. He made two massive plays in the game in pressure situations. On a 3rd-and-4 play in the final minute of the first half, he ran a shallow cross route and not only got the first down yardage but ran for another 27 before being tackled out of bounds.
It got the Texans in field goal range, but kicker Ka'imi Fairbairn couldn't convert from 56 yards out.
The wide receiver's second huge catch came early in the fourth quarter. With his team trailing by four points and in desperate need of a massive play, he managed to create separation from cornerback D.J. Reed and made an acrobatic catch for 50 yards to get Houston's offense in the red zone.
However, the drive stalled and they were forced to settle for a 27-yard field goal attempt. But surprisingly, Fairbairn's chip shot hit the upright and was no good.
Tank Dell's two biggest plays could have yielded six points on another night and potentially helped the Texans win. Unfortunately, the wide receiver's exceptional display did not help Houston improve to 7-2 as they lost 21-13.
However, they'll take solace in learning that the 25-year-old can be a playmaker when called upon.
