NFL great and destined Hall of Famer, Patrick Mahomes, has been a star attraction at the Chiefs camp ever since he joined them in the class of 2017. The hardworking Mahomes struck gold with the Chiefs when Andy Reid’s team won the 2020 Super Bowl, breaking a 50-year-long wait. It was on the back of a team built around a young Mahomes, who had a phenomenal season.
The 2018 NFL MVP achieved 38 touchdowns for 4,740 yards in the 2020 Super Bowl-winning season. As a result, he was rewarded with a record-breaking $500 million, 10-year contract by the Chiefs—a deal aptly suited for his talents. CBS reporter Jeff Kerr interviewed Mahomes around the same time, revealing a quirky ketchup habit of Mahomes amid his strict fitness routine.
When asked about his obsession with ketchup, Mahomes immediately acknowledged his guilty pleasure by laughing as he said:

“(Laughs) There's just certain things I put ketchup on that people don't like. You don't have to put it on everything, but it does add a little flavor to certain things people won't try it on.”

“The three things I put it on that people don't like are steak, mac and cheese, and eggs. I love it. When I go to a steakhouse and I ask for ketchup, they look at me weird, and I just say, 'Hey, I'm buying an expensive steak. I'm eating it the way I want'.”
Mahomes' love for ketchup is well known, and it even led him to feature in a commercial for State Farm in 2020, where Mahomes appeared putting ketchup on his plate. But his love for ketchup is only a fraction of what it once was.
Patrick Mahomes grew up with ketchup love
Patrick Mahomes has discussed his obsession with ketchup in his biography. He wrote:
“It was a long time ago, but when I was a little kid, I used to just eat ketchup sandwiches that were just ketchup and bread.”
“I used to get teased about it all the time because people thought it was very strange that I didn’t put any ham, turkey, or anything else on it—just ketchup and bread. I grew out of it, so I don’t do that anymore.”
When ESPN discussed the topic with Patrick Mahomes, he agreed that some people find it disgusting, but he’s fine with his love for ketchup.
