“This is a very violent sport” - Gisele Bündchen once made her feelings known about Tom Brady’s blockbuster NFL return

Tom Brady’s illustrious career came to an end in 2023 when he called the curtains on his career twice in as many years. However, the drama surrounding his retirement took a dramatic turn due to the involvement of his personal affairs, particularly his former wife Gisele Bündchen.

Bündchen was questioned about her involvement in Brady’s retirement decision. She rejected such claims during an interview published in Elle magazine in September 2022, while also revealing her feelings about her husband’s blockbuster return.

“Obviously, I have my concerns — this is a very violent sport, and I have my children and I would like him to be more present,” Bündchen said.

On the other hand, Brady joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after careful evaluation. He even led them to a successful title run in his first season, while the Patriots failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in nearly 20 years. Many fans saw it as redemption for Brady and were excited about his blockbuster return.

Gisele Bündchen understood that Brady had lived football all his life, and thus it was difficult for him to quit the game. She empathized with her former husband while letting him follow his passion.

“I have definitely had those conversations with him over and over again," Bündchen said. "But ultimately, I feel that everybody has to make a decision that works for (them). He needs to follow his joy, too.”

“I’ve done my part, which is (to) be there for (Tom)," Bündchen said. "I moved to Boston, and I focused on creating a cocoon and a loving environment for my children to grow up in and to be there supporting him and his dreams.”

Speculation intensified when Brady took an unusual 11-day break from training camp in August 2022.

Despite her empathy for Brady’s passion, Bündchen was criticized by media outlets and fans for allegedly pressuring Brady to retire. After all, fans wanted more of him, but she calmly rejected those accusations and criticized the system for blaming her. Eventually, Brady retired after the 2022 season while enduring a painful divorce from Bündchen.
