When Tom Brady announced his retirement from the NFL in the beginning of 2022, it was a sad day for NFL fans. Buccaneers fans have more to look forward to this season as Brady postponed his retirement and announced that he will play for at least one more season in the NFL. When did Tom Brady join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers?

After spending 20 seasons with the New England Patriots, Tom Brady decided to part ways with them before the beginning of the 2020 NFL season. Brady had already established himself as one of the greatest players of all time in the NFL when he joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on March 20, 2020.

He signed a two-year deal worth $50 million with added incentives of $4.5 million each year. Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin offered his number 12 jersey to Brady as a respect to his legacy. When Brady joined the Buccaneers he was also followed by his former Patriots teammate Rob Gronkowski, who came out of retirement to reunite with him.

When did Tom Brady play his first match for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers?

Brady became the starting quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers upon joining the franchise. Brady made his debut in the first game of the 2020 NFL season, against the New Orleans Saints.

He completed a total of 239 passing yards with 23 out of 36 pass completions. He scored a rushing touchdown along with making two touchdown passes. However, it was the Saints who emerged victorious in the match with a score of 34-23.

Brady completed two seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and announced his retirement on March 13, 2022. However, after 40 days of announcing his retirement Brady announced that he would return to play for at least one more season in the NFL. He re-signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the 2022 NFL season. Brady is set to feature in his third season with the Buccaneers.

Tom Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers Career Overview

Tom Brady’s first season with the Buccaneers was the 2020 NFL season which was played behind closed doors for the most part due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After losing his debut match against the New Orleans Saints, Brady put in spectacular performances to win three consecutive games. In the Week 4 game against the Los Angeles Chargers, Brady became the oldest quarterback to have made 5 touchdown passes in a single game. The then 43 year old Brady also won the NFL Player of the Week for the first time in his career.

Brady started all of the 16 games of the season and helped the Buccaneers end a 13-year playoff drought. The Buccaneers contested in the Wild Card round that season after the Saints topped the Division. Playing a Wild Card round was a career first for Tom Brady.

The 2020 NFL season ended on a high for Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as they won the Super Bowl. The Buccaneers won a Super Bowl after almost two decades as Brady picked up a record seventh Super Bowl title in his career. The Buccaneers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV (2021) where Brady threw 3 touchdown passes and completed a total of 201 passing yards. Brady won the Super Bowl MVP award for the 5th time in his career. Brady also became the first quarterback ever to win the Super Bowl with teams from two different Conferences.

Before the 2021 NFL season Brady had to undergo knee surgery for an injury which troubled throughout the entirety of the 2020 NFL season. In the opening game of the season Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski set the record for most touchdown passes between a quarterback and receiver (tied at 100 passes with Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison).

In Week 4 of the 2021 NFL season, Brady faced his former team Patriots, and broke the record for the most passing yards by any player in the league’s history. Brady also became the fourth quarterback in the NFL to defeat all 32 teams in the league, when the Bucs defeated the Patriots. Brady recorded a career high 5316 passing yards by the end of the 2021 NFL season and recorded an NFL best of 485 pass completions. He also set the record for most passing yards in a single season in NFL history.

Brady helped the Buccaneers surpass the Wild Card round against the Philadelphia Eagles in a 31-15 win. In a fiercely contested Divisional round against the Los Angeles Rams, Brady helped the Buccaneers overcome a 27-3 deficit in the 3rd quarter to tie the game at 27 points. The Rams eventually won in overtime with a field goal.

Tom Brady has been an instrumental player for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers side as he set several franchise records. He helped the team overcome a 13 year playoff drought and even improved their playoff record of 6-9 to 11-10.
