Antonio Ramiro 'Tony' Romo is a former American football quarterback who spent 13 seasons in the NFL, representing the Dallas Cowboys. During the 2003 NFL Draft, Romo initially went undrafted. However, he was repeatedly assured by Sean Payton and eventually found his way onto the Dallas Cowboys roster as a rookie free agent. Romo was a four-time Pro Bowl selection and a Second-team All-Pro in 2014. He led the NFC in passing yards in 2009 and passing touchdowns in 2007. In 2014, he topped the NFL in passer rating and completion percentage while also leading the NFC in passer rating twice (2007, 2014). On April 4, 2017, Romo announced his retirement from the NFL and was subsequently hired by CBS Sports as a football analyst, as per NFL's official website.
For his collegiate career, he attended Eastern Illinois University, where he played football for the Eastern Illinois Panthers from 1999 to 2002. Starting in his sophomore year, Romo earned honorable mention All-America honors while also winning OVC Player of the Year. In 2002, Tony became the first player in OVC history to win the Walter Payton Award, as per OVC Sports. He was named OVC Player of the Year for a third consecutive season and held numerous school and conference records by the end of his tenure. Prior to committing to Eastern Illinois, he played quarterback at Burlington High School during his formative years.
