Marcus Freeman has done what no Notre Dame head coach has done in quite a while: reach a national title game. And while he lost on Monday to the Ohio State Buckeyes, the magnitude of that run should impress general managers in the NFL.

His defensive prowess cannot be underestimated: with him at the helm, the Fighting Irish were among the top defensive teams in college football, placing within the Top 10 in multiple areas, including having the most forced fumbles and interception return touchdowns.

And such dominance should attract the interest of several NFL teams.

Here's a closer look at three teams that could be potential fits for Marcus Freeman to take over as head coach.

#3. Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars have historically been a hard-nosed team centered around defense. The current Trent Baalke era has some potent weapons at its disposal: pass-rushing defensive ends Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker, play-stopping linebackers Foyesade Oluokun and Devin Lloyd and defensive backs Tyson Campbell and Andre Cisco.

That is a strong cast for Freeman to work with. And with the right offensive coordinator, he may even unlock Trevor Lawrence's potential.

#2. Dallas Cowboys

Jerry Jones has been said to love flashiness. His recent flirtations with Deion Sanders are enough proof of that. But if he wants to see any real success, he could look to give Marcus Freeman the full reins of the Dallas Cowboys.

And yes, that includes making him de-facto DC. Mike Zimmer caused such a catastrophic defensive regression after three years of dominance under Dan Quinn that it was a surprise that he did not join Mike McCarthy on the unemployment line after the 2024 season ended.

Should Freeman receive the job, then he will have a fantastic group to work with: Dak Prescott (when he returns), CeeDee Lamb, Micah Parsons, Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland, to name a few.

#1. New York Jets

The New York Jets are currently one of the worst-run organizations in sports. Ever since they made the AFC Championship Game twice with Mark Sanchez in 2009 and 2010, they have had just a single winning record and no playoff appearances, the nadir being a 2-14 disaster under Adam Gase in 2020.

Robert Saleh was mediocre at best, failing to elevate an offense with a disastrous quarterback situation despite having monstrously prolific defenders like Quinnen Williams, Jermaine Johnson II, CJ Mosley, and Sauce Gardner at his disposal. Then he was fired in the middle of 2024, with Jeff Ulbrich also faltering as caretaker.

Can Marcus Freeman mend all that? His headstrong approach should instill a sense of strength and discipline in a downtrodden franchise, especially on a squad that needs a good quarterback to play alongside offensive leaders Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson.

Which NFL team do you think should look to hire Marcus Freeman as their next head coach? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
