During the start of the regular season, all 32 teams in the NFL have ambitions of reaching the Super Bowl. However, only two teams reach it each season, and one emerges victorious as Super Bowl champions.

With the 2025 Super Bowl around the corner, let's look at five teams with the worst records in the big game.

Top 5 teams with most Super Bowl losses in NFL history

Tied at #5. San Francisco 49ers, Cincinnati Bengals, Philadelphia Eagles, Rams, Miami Dolphins, and Dallas Cowboys - Three losses

We have a six-way tie for No. 5. The 49ers have lost three Super Bowl games in eight appearances, the Bengals have lost three out of three games, the Eagles have lost three out of four, the Rams have three losses in five games, the Dolphins have three losses in five and the Cowboys have lost three out of eight.

Tied at #3. Minnesota Vikings - Four losses

The Minnesota Vikings have been to four Super Bowl games but remain winless. The franchise's first appearance was in 1970 when the Kansas City Chiefs beat them 23-7.

The franchise's most recent appearance was in 1977 when it lost to the Raiders 32-14.

Tied for 3. Buffalo Bills - Four losses

The Buffalo Bills are fresh off a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC championship game on Sunday. Their chance to make their first Super Bowl since 1994 is gone.

The Bills famously made four consecutive Super Bowl games from 1991 to 1994, losing each time. They remain one of just 12 teams to have never won a Super Bowl.

Tied for 1. Denver Broncos - Five losses

The Denver Broncos have been to the big game eight times, winning three and losing five. Their most recent defeat was a 43-8 blowout loss to the Seattle Seahawks in 2013.

Tied for 1. New England Patriots - Five losses

The New England Patriots were the premier dynasty of the 2000s and 2010s. In two decades, Tom Brady and Bill Belichick helped the franchise to six Super Bowl wins.

However, the Patriots are tied for the most losses in Super Bowl history. Three of those losses came in the Belichick and Brady era: two against the New York Giants and one to the Philadelphia Eagles.
