Born to a nurse, Donnetta, both Travis and his younger brother Trevor showcased remarkable football abilities from a young age. While attending Jennings in High School in his hometown of Jennings, Etienne rushed for close to 2,500 yards as a senior, while totaling more than 8,800 yards in his career. A four-star recruit, he chose Clemson University as his destination for college football. In the meanwhile, Trevor is instead attending the Gators program at the University of Florida.
From his freshman season, Travis led the school in rushing despite being part of a strong running game that included names like Adam Choice and C.J. Fuller, while also hosting a dual-threat quarterback. In his sophomore season, Etienne became a major contributor to a Clemson side that would go on to win the College Football National Championship. More than doubling his yards from his first year, Travis led the entire FBS in touchdowns. Named ACC Offensive Player and Player of the Year, he continued his strong play in the ACC Championship Game, where he was named MVP in a winning performance.
He doubled those award trophies in his junior year, where he also became the first Clemson RB to record 3 200-yard games in a career. He led the entire ACC in rushing touchdowns while being second in the FBS for average yards in each carry. Returning for his senior year, Etienne was sharp as ever, as he broke the all-time FBS record for most games with a touchdown and the total career rushing yards record. Meanwhile, he also became the record-holder for touchdowns and total points.
With a strong collegiate career behind him, Travis headed for the 2021 NFL Draft.
