Travis Kelce stats today: Chiefs TE's receiving yards, touchdowns and more in Divisional round vs Texans - Source: Imagn

Travis Kelce came into this Divisional Round game for the Chiefs against the Texans with a lot to prove. He finished with 823 yards in the regular season, which was his lowest tally ever since he became a starter. He had just three touchdowns all season and there was only one game, against the Buccaneers, where he reached three figures in yardage.

However, no experienced NFL observer was counting him out for the playoffs. Champion players have the habit of turning up during the postseason and Travis Kelce has that ability in his DNA. Despite all the newer additions on offense, he remains Patrick Mahomes' most trusted weapon. The Chiefs knew how critical the tight end would be in defeating the Texans, who were coming off a high after defeating the Chargers in the Wild Card round.

Travis Kelce took some time getting settled in the game, but when he did, he was the one making the crucial play. In the first half against the Texans, he had his longest play of the season. He managed to escape coverage and catch a Patrick Mahomes throw. Then, he took off and avoided tackles to set up a first-and-goal. It was a gain of 49 yards, and it set up the opening touchdown of the game.

He kept up his good form in the second half as well. After the Texans scored a touchdown with their first possession of the second half, the Chiefs needed someone to step up as they looked to pull away from a meager 13-12 lead. Inevitably, all eyes were on Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.

They connected on a couple of crucial first downs to rumble down the field. However, they saved the best for the last play of their drive. The quarterback was nearly tackled in the backfield but managed to let the ball go even as he was falling down. The reason for his confidence was not hard to see as the tight end was positioned perfectly in the endzone to grab the catch and go up 20-12.

Before the game reached its final two-minute warning, Travis Kelce had 117 yards and one touchdown in five catches. It was his best performance all season, showing yet again that he is a different beast in the playoffs. The performance also emphasized the connection between the quarterback and his tight end, as the rest of the receivers had just 60 yards combined. He also missed catching just one targeted throw, showing the almost telepathic connection the duo has.

It proved crucial in Kansas City's winning yet again and moving them toward another AFC Championship appearance. As the top seed, they will now face either the Bills or the Ravens at home.
