Trent Williams is an offensive lineman who has been playing in the NFL for 13 years as of 2023. The strong 6 ft 5 in, 320 pounder was born in Longview, Texas, on July 19, 1988. Williams is considered one of the best offensive linemen in the game today and has good reason for the same.

The job of an offensive lineman in gridiron football is a thankless one. Very rarely do these big men get the credit they deserve and their entire career goes by with next to no spectacular plays. Their main job is to protect their quarterback from the oncoming athletic and versatile defenders from pass rushes and to block the run-stopping game. Easier said than done when you have the biggest men on the field backpedaling while maintaining their balance at the same time.

However, Williams is known league-wide for his exceptional qualities that prevent defenders from getting by him. He allows some of the fewest sacks and quarterback pressures in the league. He is already being mentioned as a sure-shot NFL Hall of Fame player for his position which just goes to show how good he is.

Trent Williams NFL Draft

Williams entered the league in the 2010 NFL Draft after he was selected in the first round with the number 4 overall pick by the then-Washington Redskins (Washington Commanders).

Williams was already considered one of the best available tackles in that year’s draft class and was slated to be taken in the first round by several experts. Picked with the 4th overall pick, the Texas native became the first offensive tackle to come off the board in 2010.

Some other notable players from this draft class include defensive tackles - Ndamukong Suh and Gerald McCoy, tight end - Rob Gronkowski, safety - Eric Berry, wide receiver - Antonio Brown, and more.

What position does Trent Williams play?

Williams plays as an offensive tackle and has the most important position on the offensive line as the left tackle. The left tackle is usually where the best offensive lineman will line up as he has the all-essential job of protecting the quarterback’s blind side.

The blind side of a quarterback is the side from which the signal-caller is turned away while he is in the pocket. It is generally the opposite side of the quarterback’s throwing arm and the vast majority of the quarterbacks in the NFL are right-handed.

What NFL team does Trent Williams play for?

Williams is currently playing for the San Francisco 49ers since the 2020 NFL season. Already one of the best in the business, he has shown further improvement as he has spent enough time getting used to the 49ers system. Earlier, he spent most of his career with the Redskins until the end of the 2019 season.

Although Williams was still producing at a very high level for the Redskins, he and the team had a fallout of sorts when he was diagnosed with a cancerous growth on his head in 2019. Reports state that the Redskins downplayed the seriousness of his diagnosis at first but the doctors described it as life threatening. Hence, contractual and personal issues between both parties ultimately led him to be traded to the 49ers before the start of the 2020 season.
