Trey Lance

Trey Lance is a quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys of the NFL as of 2024. Coming out of college, he was an exceptional recruit as playing for North Dakota State University. Born to the former cornerback for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Carlton, Lance saw his high school career take place at Marshall High School in Minnesota. Wanting to stay near the region, Lance considered, attending the University of Minnesota. However, after they chose to view him as a wide receiver or defensive back prospect, he eventually chose to go to North Dakota State.

After red-shirting his freshman season, he became the starter during his sophomore campaign. From there, there was no looking back. In his first year as a starter, he led the team to the NCAA Division I Football Championship Game and was even named the MVP of the game. His 287 passing attempts without a single interception was an NCAA record. As a result, he won the Walter Payton Award for being the most outstanding offensive player while also winning the Jerry Rice Award for being the best freshman. COVID-19 derailed his next season at the collegiate level, and he opted out to prepare for the 2021 NFL Draft. In his rookie season with the 49ers, Lance's primary role was serving as a backup to Jimmy Garoppolo. While he saw a few snaps here and there, most of his season was spent on the bench. In his 2022 campaign, he was named the starter but only appeared in two games before suffering a season-ending ankle injury. As a result, he spent the entirety of the Season on the sidelines watching the unprecedented rise of Mr. Irrelevant, Brock Purdy. Purdy's rise saw Lance getting traded to the Cowboys in 2023.
